Okay, rant time.
I jumped on to my Itunes account tonight to test out itunes TV rental to see what it’s like and whats to offer. I’m interested and a little frustrated as well.
First of all, for some reason TV rentals are limited to iOS 4.1 products only. So once the new software rolls out, the only way you can watch tv rentals on anything that isnt itunes is via ipod touches, iphones and (eventually) ipads. Yes, for the next couple of months until the update is finally released AGAIN the ipad misses out. I can understand them wanting to make sure it’s stable for the official ipad release, but now it’s getting ridiculous. NOVEMBER??
Also, old apple tv equipment misses out. Now I can understand them limiting other products like netflix and whatnot. The new Apple TV has the A4 chip and there might be technical limitations on what it can and cant do. rentals, however, work already now. At the present I can rent a film, transfer it to my apple tv and watch it within the month limit. how different is it between tv shows and movies? it’s the same tech!!
The tv shows?? Well, I cant blame them for that. I am surprised to see Murdoch working with tech though. After his newpaper rants he was the last on my list to agree. There’s Fox, some BBC and Disney. Been getting some of the BBC stuff tonight, started watching Skins. I’m actually liking it so far. It’s a little over the top and unbelievable but highly enjoyable. That Tony Bastard is brilliantly written.
As for the new version?? I dont see myself buying it in the meantime. Sure, I may not be able to watch a couple of TV shows on mine, but theres not a hell of a lot for me to buy in the first place! And until they open up the thing and allow some sort of app installation, whether it be by apple themselves or by an app store there’s really no reason. We don’t get netflix in Australia (i wish).
